lost and confused

Have you ever felt lost and confused at a point in your life? A point where you just stopped and realised that you don’t know where you’re heading to in life? I’ve been in such a situation many times in my life, many crossroads in my life journey.

I was talking to my friend recently, and she confessed that she doesn’t know what’s up for her in her life next. She’s graduating from university in another 6 months, yet she still has no idea what kind of job she wants. It’s pretty scary to know that you’re entering the working world soon and yet you are unsure of what kind of career you want to pursue. At the same time, you don’t want to make a hasty decision, lest you regret it in the future. But if you don’t make a decision fast, you’ll end up graduating without a job.

I thought for a while, and then I told her: don’t worry about the future. Right now, concentrate on finding out what you enjoy doing. Once you’re sure of that, then look for a job. My principle has always been to find a job that you’re interested in doing. Some people choose jobs just because they want to earn lots of money. However, it’s often these same people that end up stuck in jobs that they dislike, and they end up being slaves to their jobs, all for the sake of the money. These people may be earning good money, but every single day of work is 100% work, and it gets very tiring.

On the other hand, if you find a job that you have genuine interest in, then work is no longer work. Instead, you begin to look forward to work, and each day passes a lot faster. Sure, the pay might not be as good, but you get the satisfaction of enjoying yourself at work, and doing something that you are truly interested in.

Are you doing the kind of work that you want to? Are you studying the course that you want to in school? Just something to think about…
